Donald Cameron is a Scotland-based fine art photographer.  In his own words:

“Mono Photography, the black and white art. It’s a vision of oceans, of vast empty beaches and fast shifting skies. It’s the click of a shutter and the long exposure wait.

It’s the taming of tides and the bite of north winds. It’s bound to sea stories and verse inspired. It’s complete isolation, it’s real but not real, it’s the monochrome blues and the shoreline shuffle. It’s every part that, but most of all this… Scotland, my camera, and me.”

“With long exposure black & white photography becoming increasingly common these days, it is a greater challenge to stand out from the crowd and produce work which holds the viewer’s attention. However, for me this has made the strive for originality even more vital; and through attention to detail in composition, subject, exposure control and post-processing, this is what I continue to aim for.

Taking this further, I combine each image with poetry to add greater depth and meaning to the works. It’s about taking a seascape photograph and imagining the story behind it, leading the viewer’s mind into places they might never have gone with the image alone.

In 2009 I became Creative Director of Photography at the online art collective SlashTHREE.com, a renowned art site featuring themed exhibitions by some of the world’s best up-and-coming artists. As well as creating exclusive images for each exhibition, my role is to curate the photography submissions and bring in new talent to the site.

I work with Canon digital SLR bodies and lenses, and travel extensively around Scotland and occasionally further afield chasing the light, land and sea. During my university studies in Edinburgh I obtained a Bachelor of Arts 1st Class Honours degree, and now aged 28, I live in Perth (Scotland) where I spend most of my days wishing I lived by the coast…”
