Silvino González Morales, Colombia

Silvino Gonzales is a Colombia Photographer. He was born in Bogotá, January 30 of 1975. At the age of 17 Silvino began his engineering studies at the Francisco José de Caldas Distrital University, and after that changed to the Escuela Colombiana de Ingeniería and again to the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. The reasons behind those changes were from health issues to economical ones, but specially he was looking in engineering for something he never found.
After working independently for some time he realized how interested he was in artistic and communication pathways to reflect how he perceives life, his people and his surroundings. For that reason he left engineering and begun studies of graphic design. As a designer he has a really special relationship with photography (particularly because his father has been a vernacular photographer for a really long time, and a big influence) and how the photographercan help to define, confront, stir, i.e. using his own aesthetical values and visions, and a machine like media and some times like an end in itself.
Right now Silvino’s photographic work is directed to exploring the media (digital and analog alike) and to reflect his own concerns about social alienation, solitude and velocity inherents to post-modern urban life. But also to confront himself with his traditional roots (especially with rural areas and people from the Cauca, his mother’s ancestral land). In this process of experimentation he wants to find his own voice (or voices).

Im really happy and feel honored for be included in Folio Hunt among amazing photographers who I admire. Is really nice to know some people enjoy my work and it is really stimulating and give me courage to continue working.
