Dennis Konijnenburg, Amsterdam

Dennis Konijnenburg is a photographer based in Amsterdam.

Dennis has been taking photographs for over ten years. He was initially mostly inspired by jazz musicians, but portraits and the cityscape were very soon also included among his favourite topics.  His preferred style is black and white, although slight elements of colour may occasionally appear.

At the moment, Dennis is mostly working on the cityscape, in which he searches for those typical essentials of the city: crowded but lonely, urban yet un- tamed, and filled with unexpected elements of human intervention.  A passing moment when, in a split second, the city and its inhabitants meet to create something more than the sum of its parts.

In his portraits one can detect many overtones of silence, while the subtle unconscious performance of an individual is captured, as is the deliberate and subconscious performance of the jazz musician in the portraits of musicians.  An extended stay in Paris in 2008 resulted in a new series, 50 mm Paris (on which he is still working).
