Domenico Foschi, Whittier, California

Photographer Domenico Foschi was born in Bari, Italy, in 1962. Although constantly exploring different kinds of creative media since childhood, he discovered a love for photography after stealing his brother’s camera to document a short trip. He was nineteen at the time.
Unable to afford a formal education in photography, he turned to books in order to learn the techniques of the masters. Domenico found power in the photographic expression of Alvin Langdon Coburn, Kertesz, Steichen, Stieglitz, Strand, Sandr, Penn, Avedon and more; all of pivotal importance in his inspiration as a fine art photographer. Working in the Sergio Guidetti Studio Fotografico, Domenico received hands-on training in the use of large format cameras, and developing and printing techniques.
He then put his skill to a different use and worked as a freelance commercial photographer in Ravenna, his hometown, shooting primarily for magazines, newspapers, city administration and political figures. Domenico moved to the US in 1989, an opportunity which afforded him the production of an extensive body of work.
